On Saturday 17th September 2020, people gathered in Zidweni, Boulevard County of KwaZulu-Natal Midlands hundreds of friends and family members gathered to pay their last respects to 13 members of the Mindali family who were tragically killed in a taxi crash.
The catastrophic accident occurred last Saturday when a minibus crashed into a river near Underberg.
Among the relatives who lost their lives in the accident was a two-year-old child.
Two people survived and were taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The accident happened after they were returning home from a traditional ceremony.
The funeral was expected to be attended by Nkosazana Dlamini, Minister of Traditional Affairs of the Commonwealth, and Kwatsulu-Natal, Prime Minister Sihle ik ikalala, accompanied by MEC Nonhlanhla Khoza, Minister of Transport CEC and Bheki Ntuli and Social Development.
However, due to the large number of people who attended the funeral, their participation was not confirmed early Saturday.
“It’s an unusual coincidence that all the dead belong to the same family. There are 13 of them who died, two of them are in hospital.
“So this is a real tragedy for the MendalI family,” Dlamini uma told reporters after the incident.
