This is one business that many people don’t want you to know about. A business that gets the full backing and support of the government in terms of financial backing and incentives, a business that allows you to earn foreign currency without trying too hard and a business that allows you to make as much as 100% profit sometimes.

If you are still searching for business ideas in Nigeria, I only have one question for you; have you tried your hands on exportation? Trust me, you won’tregret it.

Now, let’s get into the nitty-gritty of how to start exportation business in Nigeria- Let’s start with the basic things you need.

Access to the internet

You need access to the internet because you would be dealing with foreign buyers and the internet is where you would source for them, chat with them and even close deals with them.

A Mobile Phone

You would need to communicate with all the parties involved in the business; product sourcing agents, overseas buyers, and all other parties involved in executing an exportation contract.

E-mail Address

You also need a dedicated e-mail address for your business. It’s always better to get a business e-mail address ([email protected]) as that would pull more weight and let your potential clients see your business as a serious one and be able to trust you.

Training/Informational Manuals

Personally, I don’t subscribe to the idea of the so-called information marketers ripping people off in the guise of teaching them how to start and run an exportation business but the basic truth is that this is one business you would need to really learn about to make anything tangible out of it.

There are so many ‘foxes’ out there and to be able to avoid falling for their cunningness.

Sourcing for Overseas Buyers

There are several consultants in Nigeria who specialize in helping exporters source for overseas buyers.

If you are a beginner, I would advise that you tow this lane but if you must do it yourself, you can visit websites like Alibaba and Trade Manager.

You can even contact the embassies of various countries that import such commodities for a list of buyers of such items in their country or better still, contact The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) for help.

However, you need to do your due diligence to be sure you are dealing with the right.

Sourcing for Products

This is the part where you have to extremely careful so you don’t ruin your reputation as an exporter because if you send bad items or items that don’t meet the specification of the buyers, you would find it difficult to get more clients and referrals.

You can source for products from local farms and markets or better still, use a product sourcing agent. But whatever you do, make sure you always export top quality products.
